Parish church volunteers help to clear the mess left by a fire in a warehouse used for storing statues for the annual feast of St Helen's Basilica in Birkirkara. The fire, believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, caused tens of thousands of US dollars of damage, but left no injuries. Many statues, some of which date back to the early years of the 20th century, avoided serious damage as they were wrapped in silver foil. The elaborately-painted wooden statues are used for decorating the streets during the celebrations leading up to the Basilica's feast day in August.
