An African refugee is carried towards a waiting ambulance in Valletta's Grand Harbour. Thirty-seven refugees, from Ghana, Algeria, Niger and Sierra Leone, were rescued after being at sea for 10 days, stranded after their boat developed engine trouble between Tripoli, Lampedusa and Malta. A passing ferry operating from Tripoli to Malta spotted them, picked them up and let them down in Malta, where they were found to be in urgent need of medical attention.
