Police officers scuffle with farmers who tried to prevent veterinary field officers from entering their farm during a bird flu simulation exercise on a farm in Burmarrad, in the centre of the Malta, October 21, 2005. A three kilometre zone was cordoned off around the area. Malta is bracing itself for a possible outbreak of bird flu, as it lies on the migratory routes taken by birds from Europe to Africa. Pigeon races and bird shows have been banned, though bird hunting is still taking place
