Malta's Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami and members of his delegation wave as their plane departs for Athens at Malta International
Airport April 15, 2003. The Prime Minister, buoyed by the success of his
election victory a few days earlier, signed the European Union Accession Treaty along with the heads of governments of nine other EU candidate
countries during a ceremony at the Acropolis in Athens the following day. The ten countries will
become member states in the enlarged EU on May 1, 2004.
